Your ISP assigns a unique IP address to your account, which can be used to identify activity related to your account on their network. These IP addresses have a “lease time,” which means that the IP address may expire when that lease time ends. Depending on your ISP, you may be assigned the same IP address after the original lease has expired, or you may get a different IP address. The IP address referenced in the notice you received from your ISP is the IP address they assigned to your account on the date and time when your account was used to upload or download infringing files.
